B Corp Month 2025: Why is Baxendale Part of Gen B?

Every year, B Corp invites certified businesses to join them in raising awareness of B Corps and how they differ from other companies in #BCorpMonth. In 2025, it’s all about celebrating #GenB — a new wave of businesses and thought leaders driving positive change with inspiration and a belief in doing better. It’s also a great opportunity for us to reflect on why we became B Corp certified and what it means to us.

What does it mean to be B Corp certified?

As quoted from B Corp’s latest press release, “Certified B Corporations are for-profit companies committed to using their business as a force for good. To qualify, they must meet high social and environmental impact standards, make a legal commitment to be accountable to all stakeholders (including workers, customers, and the planet) not just shareholders, and demonstrate transparency by sharing information publicly”.

Of course, for each business, being a B Corp means something unique to them too.

Why did we choose to be a B Corp?

We’ve always conducted business with integrity - transparency, fairness and sustainability are at the heart of what we do. Specifically, we help our clients thrive in the complex worlds in which they exist, working with them to develop solutions that transform health and well-being outcomes. We operate in a way that offers value for money and supports our clients into making a meaningful contribution to the local communities they work within. In fact, 50% of our clients describe our impact as “significant”, while the other 50% describe it as “transformational”.

Our clients have included NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards, social enterprises, private companies, charities and those in the voluntary sector - all organisations that have a direct impact on society and people's well-being.

Taking a closer look at who our clients serve, 57% support the wider population, 29% serve older people, 29% assist children, young people and families and 43% provide care for adults with mental health conditions. Notably, 14% of our clients can now reach people previously excluded and a significant 86% report better service quality, leading to improvements in mental or physical health for our population.

So, when the opportunity arose to be officially recognised for our approach to business, it required little deliberation.

Becoming a B Corp has allowed us to formalise our commitment to ethical practices, hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards, and contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future.

How are we making changes for the better?

From our core values to employee well-being and the decisions we make day-to-day, we strive to make changes for the better as a B Corp.

People

Employee wellbeing is an area in which Baxendale excels. As an employee-owned business, good governance and partnership culture is not only something we champion in theory but is woven into the fabric of our business. We are constantly striving to create an environment where everyone is comfortable voicing their opinion and everyone takes shared responsibility for the future of the company. In fact, every staff member at Baxendale is a “partner”, and as such all play a fundamental role in shaping our business strategy.
We firmly believe in putting our colleagues’ well-being at the heart of what we do. That is why we invest in professional growth, learning and development and why we are proud to support a wide variety of training opportunities.

But, we don’t just focus on today’s Partners - our Trust Deed mandates us to make decisions with both current and future Partners in mind. This long-term approach shapes everything we do, especially how we build lasting partnerships with our clients.

Purpose

As a B Corp, our way of working is honest, trustworthy and for the long term.

We embed ourselves into our client’s team to grow together and provide the kind of support that creates positive outcomes. We are transparent about our fees, offering good value for money. As a trustworthy partner, we have our clients’ backs by being responsive, flexible, and action-oriented to foster strong relationships. Taking a coaching approach, we build confidence and transfer knowledge to deliver outcomes that will last beyond our time working together.

We embed ourselves into our client’s team to grow together and provide the kind of support that creates positive outcomes.

Planet

A significant part of being a B Corp is meeting high standards of environmental performance. Baxendale has agreed to increase its focus in this area through annual carbon footprint measurement as part of our wider annual impact report.  A few initiatives we’ve brought forward into the business include formalising business travel guidelines to encourage the use of public transport, and ensuring our partners share our values to reduce our carbon footprint.

As a business and as individuals, we are constantly making decisions: who to work with, which suppliers to use, and how we travel. As a B Corp, each choice is an opportunity for us to improve the impact we have.

We’re extremely proud to be B Corp certified along with many of our clients and partners and will be continuing to highlight how we're making changes for the better throughout #BCorpMonth. Keep an eye out on our website and social channels to find out more and be inspired!
