Exploring Healthcare Innovations: A Collaboration Between Baxendale, Social Enterprise UK and The King’s Fund

When resources are tight, it’s more important than ever to be bold, creative, and relentlessly person- and outcome-focused. It’s not only about doing more with less—it has to also be about doing differently, with purpose and partnership at the heart.
That’s why Baxendale has partnered with Social Enterprise UK and The King’s Fund to explore and share stories of healthcare innovation that are driving real change. These case studies showcase not only the incredible impact of taking different, more collaborative approaches to care, but also delve into the key factors behind their success and uncover valuable lessons for stakeholders across the health and care sectors.
Who are we?
We, Baxendale, are a leading consultancy in healthcare innovation and a team of world-class consultants with exceptional and deep understanding of the health, care and wellbeing sectors. We are particularly experienced in the "out of hospital" space and work regularly with community, mental health and primary care providers. Our clients have included NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards, social enterprises, private companies, charities and those in the voluntary sector - all organisations that impact society and people's well-being. We help these clients create transformative solutions and, as an employee-owned B Corp, are committed to driving sustainable, positive change.
Social Enterprise UK is the national voice and membership body for social enterprises in the UK. It represents businesses with a social or environmental mission - organisations that reinvest their profits to achieve positive social change. Many of these enterprises are delivering vital health and care services, often in communities that others have struggled to reach.
The King’s Fund is an independent charity working to improve health and care in England. Through research, policy analysis, leadership development, and system-wide insight, it supports better understanding and decision-making across the industry.
Together, we are combining our expertise to spotlight examples of innovative healthcare.
What will these case studies show us?
By highlighting ways of working, alongside the impact generated, we can learn what works, why it works, and what can be applied more broadly. Each case study not only showcases successes but also provides a detail of how better outcomes were delivered for local communities. These stories offer actionable lessons to inspire change for stakeholders across the health and care sectors.
We have already shared two insightful stories. The first, from Spectrum Community Health CIC, which increased cervical screening rates for women prisoners at HMP Styal from 64% to 90%. The second showcased The Jean Bishop Centre, an initiative of the City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP), who used their frontline innovation to cut emergency admissions for the most severely frail people by 50%.
Both of these examples show how innovative healthcare solutions can lead to meaningful improvements for groups that are often marginalised.
